Although Paris may be known as the City of Light, New York owns the title to The City That Never Sleeps. One could never expect that it would go dark the way it did once Sandy hit.

Dan Nguyen has posted some eerie shots of New York City streets following ConEd’s preemptive shutdown of the the electrical grid below 39th Street due to flooding substations and a transformer explosion downtown. Over 650,000 were left without power.

I regret not taking my camera out in the suburbs. Although dark streets and roads here are part of the physical culture, suburban lawns don’t cast the shadows and silhouettes you see from the city’s building walls…
