Fourth Avenue was once known as Book Row, a stretch of six blocks, 8th Street to 14th Street, with three dozen shops selling used books. Except for the Strand over on Broadway and 12th Street, they’re all gone. The poet, Eli Siegel, most likely wandered those stacks. I was lucky enough to be there as well. Could be that Siegel and walked the aisles together on the way to a good book and a bit of thoughtful poetry…
