…and in the world news:
According to the Beijing Youth Daily, a woman and her young son were visiting the zoo in Louhe city, when the animal in the cage marked ‘African lion’ did something unusual: It barked.
Zookeepers then revealed that the animal was not, in fact, a lion, but a Tibetan mastiff, a large dog with a thick, shaggy coat. They had sent the real lion away to a breeding center, they said, and apparently hoped no one would notice the difference between the lion and its canine substitute.
“The zoo is absolutely trying to cheat us,” the woman, surnamed Liu, was quoted as saying. “They are trying to disguise dogs as lions.”
According to the BBC, other species in the zoo were also mislabeled; an enclosure for leopards contained a white fox, and another dog was being passed off as a wolf.
A zoo representative, Liu Suya, said they had replaced the lion with the dog temporarily due to “safety concerns.”
There…feel better now?
